The Kapali Carsi

London calling…

London was calling, and I answered…

I am in London, for a much-yearned-for vacation, although I have a few semi-business plans: Meet up with business acquaintances and do a couple of interviews for the paper, for example. I also would love to meet up with readers and discuss the Turkish economy, for example what the Central Bank of Turkey is up to:) So if you are in London and would like to meet up, just drop me a line at emre.deliveli@gmail.com

Speaking of the CBT, Thursday turned out to be a bad day to travel: I landed in London right after the Bank disclosed the decisions of the interim MPC, including the surprise interest rate cut. And while the emails started pouring in while I was waiting for my luggage, I lamented not having traveled a day earlier: I should have been in front of my laptop blogging rather than trying to comprehend how to work the Oyster card.

But I am planning to write about the decision for this week’s Hurriyet Daily News column, so you’ll be able to read about my take there. And if you can’t wait 48 hours, here are FT’s and Citi’s takes.

Incidentally, I was planning to write about my impressions from my meetings in London for the next couple of weeks, but that just will have to wait… In the meantime, I could post my meetings in the blog, without revealing anyone’s identity of course. In fact, I had a really interesting conversation with someone following the Turkish economy today, so I might summarize that soon.
