Just a couple of small announcements

Just two unrelated thoughts; since these are not Econ. stuff, I just did not want to use separate entries:

First, it seems that the Daily News is really doing well. How do I know? Your friendly neighborhood economist’s columns have not making it into their top ten lists for the past couple of weeks. This is good for the paper: If a subject as  boring as economics:) is in top-ten for a general newspaper on Turkey, then it means that paper doesn’t have enough interesting articles in the first place. So I am glad for my paper, although my ego is being deflated.

Second, I will be at a conference in Denizli tomorrow. As you can see in the schedule (Turkish, way at the bottom), Enders, author of my Applied Time Series bible, will talk about time series analysis of world food prices. After lunch, I’ll listen to Erdem Basci, the Central Bank Governor, speak and if I am in a foul mood, I might ask provocative questions as a public good, so you should sit in that one just in case:)… The conference presentations look to be very interesting, so if I’m not too lazy, I’ll try to live-blog, or at least semi live-blog, from the conference, so check back at the blog early morning EST…

Finally (I know I said a couple, but…), the IMF’s seemingly moody projections of the Turkish economy in their two recent reports are worth noting, so I am thinking of covering them for the column next week…
