Destabilizing Turkish economic statistics released

I am talking about unemployment numbers by city: The 2010 figures were released a couple of days ago, and my Turkey Data Monitor, my Turkish data companion, came up with the following great graph:

The darker the blue, the more the unemployment rate in a city. Adana, home of Besiktas’s brothers-in-arms Demirspor and the Adana kebap, tops the list…

As for why they are destabilizing: TurkStat had unemployment by city all the time, as they come from the same survey as unemployment, but even when they would release the raw data to academics for research (I am one of the few who have actually seen the raw data), they would erase the city codes of the respondents. Why? Have a look at this post from the old post for a hilarious story.

By the way, I just decided that I will do light, humorous posts like this one over the weekend from now on. I was complaining the other day that migrating to RGE Economonitor has made my posts more serious and boring. I hope this will lighten the move up and bring back my mojo! Yeah, baby!…
