My research interests include public debt, international finance, banking, political economy, and public sector labor markets. I am currently working at UNCTAD where I am the chief of the Debt and Finance Analysis Unit in the Division on Globalization and Development Strategies. Prior to joining UNCTAD, I worked several years in the Research Department of the Inter-American Development Bank and in the Africa Region of the World Bank. I also taught in the Department of Economics of the American University of Beirut and in the Department of Economics of the University of Torino. I recently co-authored a book on public debt in Latin America and I have a forthcoming book (joint with Eduardo Borensztein, Kevin Cowan and Barry Eichengreen) on the Latin American Bond Market. I have an undergraduate degree from the University of Torino and a Ph. D. in Economics from the Johns Hopkins University (Baltimore).
