Alicia Garcia Herrero

Since December 2007, Alicia García Herrero is Chief Economist for Emerging Markets at Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria (BBVA). She is also visiting professor at the University of Hong Kong and a member of the advisory board of Hong Kong Institute of Monetary Research.

Prior to BBVA, she was part of the Asian Research Program of the BIS in Hong Kong. From 2001 until 2006, she was Head of the International Economy Division of Bank of Spain. She was also visiting professor at Johns Hopkins University and at Universidad Carlos III. From 1998 to 2001, she was a member of the Counsel to the Executive Board of the ECB. From 1997 to 1998, she was Head of Emerging Economies at the Research Department at Banco Santander, as well as Associate Professor at Universidad Autónoma. From 1994 to 1997, she worked as an economist at the International Monetary Fund.

Alicia García Herrero holds a Ph.D. in Economics from George Washington. Many of her papers have been published in reference journals and books. She has also been a research fellow at the Bank of Japan and the Bank of Finland.

Ed Dolan Ed Dolan's Econ Blog

Edwin G. Dolan is an economist and educator with a Ph.D. from Yale University. Early in his career, he was a member of the economics faculty at Dartmouth College, the University of Chicago, and George Mason University. From 1990 to 2001, he taught in Moscow, Russia, where he and his wife founded the American Institute of Business and Economics (AIBEc), an independent, not-for-profit MBA program. Since 2001, he has taught at several universities in Europe, including Central European University in Budapest, the University of Economics in Prague, and the Stockholm School of Economics in Riga, where he has an ongoing annual visiting appointment. During breaks in his teaching career, he worked in Washington, D.C. as an economist for the Antitrust Division of the Department of Justice and as a regulatory analyst for the Interstate Commerce Commission, and later served a stint in Almaty as an adviser to the National Bank of Kazakhstan. When not lecturing abroad, he makes his home in San Juan Islands, Washington.
