Video: What Really Motivates Us and Why We Are Not Homo Economicus

This Cool Video is a bit longer than the videos I usually post, but it is well worth your time.  It runs a little less than 11 minutes, but it is done in an engaging and entertaining style.  It was posted by RSA Animate and finds that outside of easy manual work, our usual ideas on what motivates people (and ourselves) is simply wrong. The video reports on studies that show that for much of our activity, we are motivated by having a purpose, mastery of skill and being self-directed.

A sensible path to success and enjoyment for the staff. Learning on the job is important and ensures continuous productivity improvement to the benefit to the employer and employee.

Managers become coaches, not anal supervisors.
