How Slow Will It Go? Economists Discuss the Global Slowdown
There is now doubt that the US economy has slowed down but by how far and how fast? In a discussion held earlier this month in Italy, John Thornhill asks two economists how they expect the market and economic turbulence to develop. Nouriel Roubini is a professor of economics at New York University’s Stern School of Business and is famously pessimistic about the slump. Jim O’Neill is head of global macro research at Goldman Sachs and takes a more sanguine view. They discuss whether the European economy is robust enough to weather the storm brewing across the Atlantic and compare approaches taken by the US Federal Reserve and the European Central Bank to counter the problem.
